A woman says she was so afraid of her boyfriend she waited until he passed out from drinking to call police and report the abuse of her child.

The woman told officers she went to work around 7 a.m. Sunday, and left her young daughter with 22-year-old Jesus Ecobedo, her boyfriend of three years. Escobedo is the girl's father.

The woman said she tried to call home throughout the day to talk to the couple's daughter, but Escobedo refused to put the girl on the phone. When the woman returned to the couple's apartment in the 1200 block of W. Interstate 240 Service Road around 5 p.m., she discovered her daughter had been beaten.

According to a police report, the girl – whose age was not revealed – had bruises all over her face, chest, stomach and buttocks. She also had two bite marks on her cheeks. The mother told police she immediately wanted to report the abuse, but she was afraid Escobedo would beat her, too.

Instead, the woman went with Escobedo to the store to buy beer. She said she hoped he would drink enough to pass out. When Escobedo did fall asleep about two hours later, the woman was able to take her cell phone from Escobedo, leave the apartment and call 911.

Police arrested Escobedo and booked him into the Oklahoma County jail on a complaint of child abuse.
