NORMAN, Oklahoma -- U.S. Army Spc. Jason Dean Hunt was remembered for his outstanding dedication to his country during a funeral service Saturday. Hunt was killed along with 12 others during shooting rampage at Fort Hood last week.
About 200 people came to the Primrose Funeral Home to pay tribute to the 22-year-old soldier from Frederick. Hunt, who was recently married, was described as a loving husband and family man as well as a soldier who left a legacy of selflessness and service.
"He said he would jump in front of a bullet for one of my fellow soldiers and he did say that to me in person. That's the kind of person he is," said Leila Hunt Willingham, Hunt's sister.
It was that willingness to save others that Hunt's sister said was what likely led to his death.
"He's always been a hero even before this. I think he's even more so because he wasn't overseas killed in combat. I think he jumped in front of a bullet for somebody," Willingham said.
But as the grieving continues and the investigation into the Fort Hood massacre moves forward, President Obama has assured the families who lost loved ones that there will be justice.
"If there was a failure to take appropriate action before the shootings there must be accountability," President Obama said.
That is something that means little now for the families forced to bury their loved ones, those like the family and friends of Specialist Hunt.
"It's hard with a kid this young and have something this tragic happened," said family friend Kathy Gray.
Five other soldiers killed in the Ft. Hood shooting were also buried Saturday.
