TULSA, Okla. (AP) - Early election results are showing Republican oilman Dewey Bartlett Jr. with a small lead over Democratic state Sen. Tom Adelson in the Tulsa mayoral race.
According to Tuesday's unofficial results from the Tulsa County Election Board, Bartlett led with 7,030 votes, or 43.39 percent, to 6,282 votes, or 38.78 percent, for Adelson. That's with only 49 of 215 precincts reporting, however.
Independents Mark Perkins and Lawrence Kirkpatrick had picked up 2,730 (16.85 percent) and 159 (0.98 percent) votes, respectively.
All four are vying to succeed Mayor Kathy Taylor, who said she wanted to devote her time to guiding the city through the economic downturn instead of focusing on a re-election campaign.
Election board officials say returns have been slow to come in Tuesday night.
