WEWOKA, Oklahoma -- The Wewoka Police Department along with the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation are investigating a fatal stabbing that took place over the weekend.
According to OSBI spokesperson Jessica Brown, the stabbing occurred Saturday night just before 9 p.m. at 215 W. Cedar Street.
Brown said Erwin Wimberly, 44, was stabbed by his brother, 51-year-old Labron Cosby after the two were arguing in a vacant lot where many people had gathered. Wimberly was transported by ambulance to the hospital in Seminole where he was pronounced dead.
Cosby was arrested for the murder and booked into the city jail, but was released Sunday night after an initial investigation indicates the possibility of self defense, according to Brown.
OSBI continues to investigate the killing and will present a report to the district attorney’s office. The district attorney will decide if any charges will be filed.
