PRYOR, OK -- Investigators with the Mayes County Sheriff's Office have arrested Lonnie Hughes, 40, of Salina for the rape of a 67-year-old Mayes County resident.

The sheriff's office says Hughes entered the victim's home in the early-morning hours of July 12, 2009, covered the victim's head with a pillow case and sexually assaulted her before leaving the residence.

A Mayes County field deputy observed the suspect vehicle parked in the area and checked on the vehicle leading investigators to the suspect.

DNA evidence was submitted to the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation lab and as a result Hughes was arrested for the crime.

Hughes is currently in the Mayes County jail on a $500,000 bond.
