WETUMKA, Oklahoma - A Wetumka man accused of locking a girl in a tool box for 16 hours this week also faces previous charges of child abuse and violating a protective order involving the same girl.
Christopher Lewis,23, was charged Monday in Hughes County District Court with kidnapping and assault and battery with a dangerous weapon. Lewis is accused of locking a Weleetka girl in a toolbox in the back of a pickup truck while he had drinks inside a friend's home.
"It's troubling to think anybody could be facing charges like this and be a victim of a crime like this," Linda Evans, Hughes County Assistant District Attorney said.
Court documents show the girl's family filed a protective order against Lewis in December 2007.
Lewis was charged with violating the protective order in August 2008.
A charge of child abuse involving the same girl was filed against Lewis in January 2009.
The girl was rescued from the tool box by a friend who heard her calls for help. After freeing the girl, the friend took her to the Wetumka police station. The girl told police that Lewis locked her in the tool box around 10 p.m. July 27. She said her brought her a drink of water once, according to a police affidavit.
"That is alleged to be a screwdriver that was heated up and placed on the body," Evans said.
The affidavit also states that prosecutors had previously filed charges against the girl's father and uncle for trying to retaliate against Lewis's actions toward the girl.
Lewis made his initial appearance in court on the kidnapping and assault charges on Tuesday. His bond was set at $200,000. He's next court appearance is schedule for August 18.
