Preliminary hearing in triple homicide to resume

Associated Press - June 23, 2009 2:25 PM ET

STILLWATER, Okla. (AP) - The preliminary hearing for a man charged in a triple homicide in Cushing is set to resume.

The hearing on whether 21-year-old Robert Chad Barela stands trial on three counts of first-degree murder resumes Wednesday in Payne County District Court in Stillwater.

Barela is charged in the Feb. 17 shooting deaths of 19-year-old Elizabeth Hueser; 27-year-old Douglass Peck; and 21-year-old Albert Sernas.

The hearing began May 18 with police testifying that Barela said he shot Peck because Peck was a police informant and he shot Sernas because he believed Sernas had said an earlier shooting police had ruled an accident was actually intentional.

He allegedly shot Hueser because she witnessed the other two shootings.
