OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) - A Guthrie soldier shot in the neck while serving in Iraq will be presented with a Purple Heart medal during a ceremony at the state Capitol.
Oklahoma Army National Guard Cpl. Adam Schuster will receive the medal at 2 p.m. Monday from Gov. Brad Henry and Maj. Gen. Myles Deering - the Oklahoma National Guard Adjutant General.
The 25-year-old was a member of a security patrol in Ramadi, Iraq, when he was hit in the neck by a small-caliber bullet fired by an insurgent. Schuster underwent multiple surgeries to repair damage to his jaw and teeth.
Schuster deployed to Iraq with more than 800 soldiers from the Enid-based 45th Fires Brigade last summer.
