OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) _ High levels of ragweed pollen have prompted an allergy clinic to issue an alert for those who suffer from seasonal allergies known as ``hay fever.'' The Oklahoma Allergy and Asthma Clinic has issued a ``very high alert'' for ragweed pollen.

The alert is meant to advise allergy sufferers that they may need medication, such as nasal steroids and antihistamines, to combat symptoms that can be severe enough to affect a person's ability to function at school or work.

Warm weather and rain have combined to stimulate growth in ragweed plants.

No alerts were issued last fall and only one was issued in fall 2005, clinic officials said.
