Good news for the Sooners today. Oklahoma Sports learned that Ryan Broyles will return next season. He was draft eligible because he was redshirted his freshman season. Broyles became a star this season and will be mentioned among preseason All-Americans next year. He's only seven catches away from tying Mark Clayton for single-season receptions at OU. That's amazing considering he missed nearly two whole games with that fractured shoulder blade.

I know that Broyles sent in his paperwork to the NFL to see about his draft stock, but has decided to stay regardless of where he's projected to go. I've also heard that when Kansas receiver Desmond Briscoe decided to leave for the NFL, it sealed the deal for Broyles to return.

We also learned Saturday that Jameel Owens has decided to transfer. No surprise. He was unhappy at OU and it seemed OU was unhappy with him. Those close to Jameel think he'll end up at Tulsa. It's a shame it didn't work out in Norman for a kid that was so highly regarded in high school. It just proves it takes talent and desire to be successful. One of the two isn't good enough.

One more nugget. The top junior college quarterback in the country, Cameron Newton from Blinn CC, has been in Norman the last couple of days. He hasn't committed to the Sooners, but I'm told he has expressed great interest. He's 6'6 and tremendously athletic. If he lands at OU it could be a very interesting QB battle in the spring and fall between Landry Jones, Drew Allen, Blake Bell and Cameron Newton.
