Radiation Gauge

While all electrical devices emit electromagnetic radiation, most of that radiation is known as "non-ionizing" radiation. Sound waves, visible light, and even microwaves fall into this energy range. This is the kind of radiation tested by Lauren Nelson with the radiation finder. "Ionizing radiation" contains much more energy, enough to remove atoms from electrons, a process which creates ions. This is the kind of radiation measured by a Geiger counter, and which is clearly linked to a variety of health problems, including death. Please use our interactive radiation gauge to measure the different amounts of ionizing radiation you may encounter in everyday activities, including using a cell phone and eating a banana!
