  • Road Trip Oklahoma is starting 2012 with a bang. On Friday, January 20, Oklahoma's Own News 9 will be in El Reno, Oklahoma. Originally known as Reno City, the name was changed because of confusion with Reno, Nevada. Currently, the city has a population of over 16,000 people. El Reno is home of the annual Fried Onion Burger Day Festival.
  • Running between Thanksgiving and New Years, Chickasha's Festival of Light has become an award winning display with over 4 million lights. The event brings in approximately 300,000 people and is produced mainly through charitable contributions and volunteer efforts. One of the current major projects underway in Chickasha is the construction of a new Early Education Center, a 20-million dollar job, which is expected to be finished in August 2012.
  • On September 28, 1891, Chandler, Oklahoma was one of two towns to have its own land run and be established. The city has a population of approximately 2,900 people, with a school system consisting of a pre-kindergarten through second grade elementary, a third grade though sixth grade elementary, a junior high, and a high school. 19 properties in Chandler are listed in the National Register of Historic Places.
  • With 25 residents, Yukon, Oklahoma was established in 1891 and has since grown into a town of well over 20,000 people. The Yukon Mill and Grain Company, opened in 1893, was the city's largest source of industrial growth. With more than 7,000 students, Yukon's school system currently consists of seven kindergarten through 3rd grade elementary schools, two 4th and 5th grade elementary schools, one middle school, and one high school campus.
  • In 1902, this town was named after local cattleman and rancher, James H. Tuttle. Tuttle is home to the Braum's Dairy farm, which operates for over 280 Braum's Ice Cream and Dairy Stores throughout five states. The Tiger Safari is also located in the city of Tuttle and houses over 100 exotic and domestic animals.
  • Purcell, Oklahoma is an active city with population near 6,700. Purcell is an outer suburb of Oklahoma City located along the I-35 corridor in the central part of the state on a bluff overlooking the Canadian River. It is also the county seat for McClain County.
  • After the Land Run of 1891, early settlers named their town Shawnee, named after the Shawnee Indian tribe. Starting with a population of approximately 250 in 1892, this town has continued to grow with a current population of over 29,000. Shawnee is home to two private universities, Oklahoma Baptist University and St. Gregory's College.
  • Known as the wheat capitol of the United States, Enid is right on the path of the Chisholm Trail and the Great Land Run cross. At a time known as the Golden Age, Enid benefited from the discovery of oil in the 1910s and into WWII. The Enid Symphony Orchestra was founded in 1906 and has been performing since. The importance of the Arts is evident through these performances and the city's annual hosting of the Tri-State Music Festival.
  • Road Trip Oklahoma continues with a stop in Mustang, Oklahoma. Known as "A city with a vision", Mustang is within one of the fastest growing counties in the state. Mustang was established as a city in 1969 with a population of about 2,600. Today, Mustang boasts a population of more than 17,000. The city has an active community center which includes a public library, aquatic facility, and other recreational activities for families.
  • Moore was founded in the 1889 land run. The little town grew steadily for seventy years -- then it exploded in a frenzy of expansion and development. In 1961 approximately 21.6 square miles of additional territory was annexed and Moore became a city in 1962. The decade of the 60's saw Moore's population soar. Moore is now the 7th largest city in Oklahoma.

  • Straight west of the Oklahoma City metro, Weatherford in known for having the longest stretch of "Main Street" on Route 66.  This windy city had been making Oklahoma proud since 1898 and is filled with historic museums, boutique shopping and exceptional activities. The people of Weatherford are constantly improving the town with building projects, as seen by the wind turbine farms that line the landscape.   • Oklahoma's Own News 9 is on the move again. Road Trip Oklahoma is pulling into Bethany, Oklahoma on Friday, June 10th. While Bethany is located in the Oklahoma City metro area, it maintains a small town atmosphere. The city, a mere 5.2 square miles, has a rich history and recently celebrated its centennial in 2009.
  • The News 9 team is hitting the road to visit the town of Del City on May 13th. As late as 1946, there were only two families living in what is now Del City, Oklahoma. That soon changed after George Epperly bought 160 acre wheat field. Currently, Del City has many long standing family businesses within its city limits. They have a semi-professional football team, a country music hall of fame, and a slot car track.
  • Oklahoma's Own News 9 is taking a trip to Oklahoma's first state capital on April 29th. This landmark of a city has preserved over 2,000 buildings in its 1,400 acre Guthrie Historical District.
  • Stillwater has maintained its small-town feel despite being home to the state's second largest university, Oklahoma State University. Stillwater is the original home of red dirt music, Eskimo Joe's, and the Pistol Pete mascot.
  • Norman offers big city opportunities with a small town setting. Also known for being the home to Oklahoma University, game days in Norman bring an exciting atmosphere to the entire community. OU has received recognition for sports and academic accomplishments on a national and global level.
